I drove several times past this little gem multiple times throughout the last year. I didn’t know what I was missing. We used to go to PB’s farmer’s market to buy local, fresh produce as much as possible. As I started to talk more and more with the farmers’ market sellers, I became more conscious about what I eat and where it comes from. We also tried buying the boxes that you get delivered to your door; I wasn’t a fan of it, we had 3 or 4 deliveries before we discarded it, I noticed it was becoming more commercial trying to sell you as much as they could, and I didn’t like that, and it was expensive. I went back to the search.
I wanted to buy from farmers who didn’t use any pesticides at all; we tried a few other farmers’ markets, and they were hard to find, and these farmers wouldn’t go to all the farmer’s markets in San Diego. However, the farmers sometimes were not consistent. I don’t blame them. If they didn’t sell a lot of their vegetables, they wouldn’t come back the following week.
You can notice the difference in texture and mostly flavor, at least I did. I want my daughters to eat as healthy as possible.
Two weeks ago, I decided to stop by The Fruit Stand to find out more about their offering. I was able to speak with Britton, and he shared with me that they have been on that location for 35 years. WOW! I was blown away after our conversation. You get fresh produce almost daily. What is incredible is that most of the vegetables he gets are from local farmers in San Diego county that don’t use pesticides !! or he buys Organic Products. There are also some products that come from Bakersfield and based on demand some products that aren’t local to SoCal like Bananas, Mangos, pineapple.
He is genuinely passionate about what he does. The Fruit Stand is open seven days a week from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. Forms of Payment Cash and Credit Cards. The address is 4330 Morena Blvd, San Diego, CA 92117.
We bought a lot of veggies and fruits, and they were all fantastic. And the flavor !! OMG, you can tell it’s fresh.
Don’t hesitate to give them a try you won’t regret it. They are extremely friendly, Ramon speaks Spanish.
